Do Business Administration Jobs Offer The Best Prospects?

There is often some debate about whether or not it is better, in terms of career prospects to work in the private sector, business administration field or to go for working in Local Government or the NHS.  After all, if you work in Local Government or the NHS, then you can be sure that you will get a good, or at least a reasonable pension and the conditions are quite good, you get a lot of annual leave and there is abundant sickness cover.

But the downside to working in the public sector is that you may have more job security and some good perks, but the pay will not be as good as if you were working in the private sector.  So is it better to plump for working in a private business, such as a Limited Company or PLC company?

Well it obviously depends on your own personal circumstances and what you value, as well as how ambitious you are.  But the private sector is not all that different from the public sector in terms of perks: after all you will get sick leave, holiday leave and the right to Heath and Safety conditions in any post.

Perhaps the greatest advantage to working in a business administration post is that businesses are often quicker to reward talent than managers in the public sector.  In the public sector, pay is strictly governed by a set of criteria, so your boss may really value you.  S/he may wish to give you a pay rise, but their hands can effectively be tied by all the red tape that exists in the public sector.  Effectively this means that you will not get financial recognition for the work you do.

In the private sector, if you show that you are good at your job and that you are quick to learn, you may well be given a bonus or you may get promoted, sometimes very quickly!

So if you are very ambitious and like the idea of progressing quickly up the career ladder then you should perhaps consider working in a business administration job!
