The definition of the ‘worst’ job in the UK is somewhat relative. Some people are in traditionally ‘lowly’ jobs such as toilet cleaners or sewer cleaners, but they love their jobs. So is it best to have a relatively well paid job that you don’t like, but it is viewed as an OK job to have, or are you better off to be in a low paid, dirty job, that people look down on, but you really enjoy?
There are some jobs though which seem to appeal to only a few in Society and for this reason they are often branded as the worst jobs!
First of all comes rat catcher and pest control. Many people in these jobs will probably be angry that it is described as a bad job, since they feel it provides a very useful service. However, tracking down cockroaches or dealing with hornets’ nests is not a job that appeals to many people.
Traffic wardens may be not too badly paid, but who would want this job? Abuse, arguments, tears and hostility are daily occurrences for traffic wardens. Not a job that readily appeals, unless you have some kind of desire to wreak revenge on the British public….
Sewer and drains cleaning jobs are also not for the faint hearted, but they need to be done, although given the circumstances operatives are expected to work in, they are not well paid for their efforts.
Mortician is also a profession that elicits strong responses. Someone has to do it, but it is not a profession that can be adopted by many, leaving most of us feeling slightly repulsed by the concept.
Finally the humble toilet attendant has to make an appearance. Despite the fact that many toilet attendants enjoy their work, the increase in anti social behaviour, particularly drug taking in toilets, makes this a job that many would view as a really bad job to have.
So next time you are fed up at work, just think about what you could be doing: it will make your day suddenly seem so much better!

For me, there is nothing wrong with any job as long as it is legal. What matters most is that people are working and they are earning clean money. It is more shameful if one has no work and just bumming around waiting for some luck to appear.

Of course, we cannot blame people who are looking for jobs that earn much. Even though they don’t like their jobs, they have no choice as well because they need money. I think this is more practical. People work because they want to earn.
